UEG2022 - Certificate II in Gas Supply Industry Operations

Course Description

This qualification provides competencies for entry-level gas supply industry activities in transmission, distribution pipeline and cylinder operations and functions as outlined below:

  • Distribution pipeline activities, including laying distribution infrastructure (including pipes); developing gas pipeline infrastructure and reading gas meters in industrial, commercial and rural environments, on pipelines, associated facilities and equipment, and control centres.
  • Transmission pipeline activities, including right of way preparation, rigging operations, hydrotesting, laying pipelines, operating transmission pipeline construction plant and equipment, and conducting minor mechanical maintenance.
  • Gas cylinder operations for domestic and industrial supply of gaseous fuels, including checking, testing, maintaining and filling of gaseous fuel cylinders and the storage, handling, loading, transportation and distribution of cylinders in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.

Successful completion of 360 weighting points made up of:

  • 120 core weighting points, plus
  • 240 elective weighting points

  • CPPFES2005A Demonstrate first attack fire fighting equipment
  • MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus
  • UEGNSG004 Locate, prove and protect utility assets 
  • UEGNSG006 Use a portable gas detector to locate escape
  • UEGNSG134 Establish a utilities infrastructure work site
  • UEGNSG226 Assist with the construction, laying and connection of gas distribution services to mains
  • UEGNSG227 Assist with the construction and laying of gas distribution mains




This course is delivered over approximately 6 – 18 months, allowing for application of learnings within the workplace in between structured sessions.

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification. Students are expected to be already working in the gas supply industry.

Course Outcome and Pathways

Successful graduates will receive a Certificate of Award and Transcript for this qualification. Students who do not complete the full qualification can exit with a Statement of Attainment for successfully completed units of competency.

  • Utilities Industry Worker

Training and Assessment

Kevesther delivers its training programs onsite at clients’ workplaces (or alternatively at Kevesther’s own training facilities) through face-to-face training, coaching, and assessment activity (assessment includes knowledge questions and practical demonstration). Wherever possible, we utilise our client’s own company documentation and worksite-specific construction plans, etc. for more effective transfer of learning relevant to individual workplaces. Kevesther’s trainers and assessors work with our clients in a team-approach to ensure each student is given every opportunity to successfully complete their programs.
